How can you download all your Twitter Tweets? Your Twitter updates appear in your profile pages, so you always have access to all your tweets. However, once you’ve posted a few dozen updates or more, it’s a hassle to slog through a bunch of different pages in your profile to find the post you want. You can use the Twitter search engine to track down the post, but that’s a bit of a hassle.

Download Tweets
If you want easier access to your tweets, and you want to preserve a local backup copy of your updates, then you need to download your updates to your computer. You can do this right from your Web browser by entering a special address that uses the following general syntax:

http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/account.xml?count=n

Here, replace “account” with your Twitter username, and replace “n” with the number of tweets you want to return. If you want to return all your updates, log in to your account, check your total number of updates (it’s available on both your home page and your profile page), and then plug that number into the above address as the count value.

What you get in return is a page full of data in the XML (extensible markup language) format, as shown in the screenshot below.

Now you save the data by choosing File > Save As, choosing a location and file name in the Save As dialog box, and then clicking Save.

If you’d prefer to receive your tweets in the slightly more friendly comma-separated values (CSV) file format, check out Tweet Scan, which offers a download feature. It requires you to enter your Twitter username and password, but it’s safe because it doesn’t store your data.

Analyze Tweets
If you have Excel, you can import the XML file into a worksheet for easier viewing, searching, and so on. Here’s how:

In Excel, click the Data tab.
In the Get External Data group, choose From Other Data Sources >From XML Data Import. The Select Data Source dialog box appears.
Navigate to the XML file location, click the file, and then click Open. Excel tells you it will create a scheme for the file.
Click OK. Excel prompts you for a location to import the data.
Click the cell where you want the data to appear, and then click OK. Excel displays the XML data in a table.
Choose File >Save As, and then use the Save As dialog box to save the data as an Excel workbook. Consider using the Save as type list to choose the Excel 97-2003 file format for maximum compatibility. Screenshot below shows just such a file loaded into the Mac version of Excel.

Update Tweet Downloads
Downloading your tweets is easy, but this method suffers from a glaring problem: as soon as you start posting tweets again, your backup becomes out of date, so you need to perform regular downloads. However, it doesn’t make sense to download all your tweets each time. You could adjust the count value based on the number of updates you’ve sent since the last download, but Twitter offers an easier way.

If you examine the screenshot above, you see that each tweet is given a unique ID value. You can use the value to download just those tweets you’ve posted since your last download. You do that by using your Web browser to enter a special address that uses the following general syntax:

http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/account.xml?since_id=ID

Again, “account” is your Twitter username, and “ID” is the ID value for the latest tweet in the previous download. For example, in the screenshot above, you can see that the latest tweet in my @AkmalWardak account has the ID value of 3354513509, so I could download every tweet since that post by using the following address:

http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/akmalwardak.xml?since_id=3354513509

Ok , we collected interesting links and nice tweets on Twitter, we can see a Twitter user’s Favorites,we have a RSS feed for them and burned this feeds to be able to send
updates to email subcribers. BTW the are more ways to share the updates than only by email (by phone, by messenger…. or as a badge for your website).
But how to proceed from there ?
I found just now an interesting article at makeuseof.com It is an article about backing up your Twitter experience.
On the www everything what you need can be found . But you have to keep on searching.
Then perhaps just use what you find in a different way because you see it in a different way.
If you can backup ,say your Twitter favorites in a excel sheet (through an xml file let’s say), on your
computer, you have them in a file which you can manipulate!!
A file your can use elsewhere !!! On your Blog ?

Related article at mashable:HOW TO: Create and Share a Twttrlist of Your Favorite Tweets at Squidoo
Related sites
Tweetbook.in: Convert your tweets into a book ! But here is more !! tweetbook gives also
an XML file of all your favorites.
Favotter displays favorited tweets of twitterers and categorizes them based on the number of times they have been marked as favorite by twitter users. You can also view the HOT, BEST and NEW favorites .

Update

Today i found something great , just what we need !!
Favesbytes is an experimental tool that helps you to generate a file containing your Friends’ Favorite Tweets. You can then import that file into your RSS feed reader like Google Reader and you’ll be automatically updated when your friends favorite new tweets.
Yes!! Let us take Twitter to higher levels… Imagine what could happen if we chose and group our Friends Favorites properly.

A difficult aspect ,i think, however is how Twitters will choose and create great Favorites for us to follow. I had no succes questionning
my followers

To see which of a user’s Friends already starred Favorites use this Yahoo Pipe i found Favorites Count

To see a user’s Friends Favorites in detail to be able to analyse them use http://twitter.com/username/favorites.

Will be back…..i hope ….with more soon .

I like the new online tools the www offers every day.
I have a need to find them and to store them somewhere.
If you need them you have them.
But the problem is to get all of this organised.
There are a lot of ways to do this.
Twitter offers also a nice way through its Favorites. Starring nice tweets and/or nice links from other uers.
Besides starring nice Tweets from others you can also put up your own news reader.
Collect a number of RSS feeds you like , put them in a Yahoo pipe.
Feed the pipe to Twitter with Twitterfeed.
Favorite the links you want to stand out in your Twitter profile(s).
Perhaps get a separate profile for music or for video or for what ever you want.
(Hint: if your google mail adress is abc@google.com
a.bc@google.com will be considered as a different adress delivered
to the same inbox abc@google.com as will ab.c@google.com.
Get a RSS feed for your favorites or get them in your mail box, phone or messenger.
(see my other articles on how to do this).
Use other clients like Bigtweet to send links to your Twitter profile
and favorite them.
And also Favorite updates of Twitter users you follow which concern your point of interest to make your collection complete.
Please let me know in the comments what you star.
I would like to collect interesting Favorites for us all.
Update:just found a new great tool at backtweets to continue the quest for nice links and tweets. BackTweets lets you search URLs (shortened and unshortened) on Twitter(i will start with :search url: twitter.com/favorites or twitter.com/#favorites).

Perhaps you could try this out and give me a comment if this also works for you.

The most important reasons behind Twitter’s popularity are its simplicity and versatility.
It’s extremely easy to join and participate, and yet it can be used for a very wide spectrum of purposes.
It’s not just about the things you can do or are doing.
It’s also about the things you want to do.
You can send (get)information to (from) the world wide web.
You can inform the public on the latest project you’re working on. You can write poems. You can criticize other people’s poems. You can be very active. You can be inactive. You can use a fake name. You can hire someone to tweet for you.
One of the tools Twitter offers is that a Twitter user can make a selection of his favorite Tweets.
To use this tool in more than one way, here is a link to convert
a Twitter’s user favorites into a RSS feed.

http://www.mathenjwa.be/online-tools-rss-twitter-favorites.htm

Try the user onlinetools (me) who picks from all the news he is following (20 sources with Yahoo pipes and through Twitterfeed) as favorites the news on Twitter tools.
Another site who offers the same service as Twitterfeed is feednest.com/

If you only want to see a user’s favorites use this url :
http://twitter.com/username/favourites
The RSS feed will only give the latest 20 updates.
Want to receive the updates in your mailbox? Read my article about
it. By phone or messenger or as a badge for your website?

Want to learn more ? Sent me a comment.
Let me also know in the comments what you star.
Let us try to make an interesting list of Favorites for
us all.
